ABOUT THE ALLIANCE                   
The Alliance of Southern Prince George’s Communities (ASPGC), Inc., is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization whose mission is “Building a Stronger Community by Helping Others to Help Themselves.”

​The ASPGC was established in June 1992, by a group of concerned community leaders to address the academic performance of the youth, the social services delivery system, and the health and recreational programs for senior citizens in southern Prince George’s County. Its basic tenet was and continues to be, as lives are enriched and enhanced through a helping hand, the entire community experiences growth, prosperity, and pride.

From its inception, the ASPGC supported a variety of educational and social services programs and projects to benefit the residents of southern Prince George’s County. These programs included, community based tutoring programs, scholarships to needy high school seniors, health and recreational programs for senior citizens, and special projects to assist the schools in southern Prince George’s County.

​ASPGC priorities continue to be education and community outreach.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

​To improve the quality of life in neighborhoods by supporting educational and enrichment programs and activities for the community at large with a focus on the youth and senior residents.
 
Youth Development
  • Support for Fine Arts Programs
  • Adopt-A-School
  • Scholarships to institutions of higher education
 
Senior Recreation and Enrichment Programs
  • Sponsor Annual Boat Ride
  • Sponsor annual South County senior citizen's picnics
  • Provide Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets to senior homes
  • Provide emergency utility bill and prescription drug assistance to needy seniors
 
Community-At-Large
  • Host seminars, workshops, and meetings on issues affecting South County neighborhoods
  • Provide emergency funds for food, clothing, and shelter to bridge the gap for single-parent families, victims of fire, spousal abuse, or eviction.
  • Develop a network of referral agencies for assistance
  • Partner with other non-profit organizations on projects
  • Donate office space to start-up non-profit organizations
SERVICES

​Education Goals:
  1. to assist elementary and middle school students achieve a minimum 70% proficiency rate on the state mandated tests in reading, writing, language, mathematics, science, and social studies by providing grants to non-profit organizations who specialize in after-school tutoring and summer enrichment programs;
  2. to improve high school student performance on the Pre-Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT), the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the American Collegiate Test (ACT), by providing grants to non-profit organizations to sponsor preparatory classes at the local high schools; and 
  3. to provide scholarships to help increase the number of needy high school seniors attend colleges, vocational, technical, and other institutions of higher education. ​
